Skype iPhone v1.1 is Available Today

The latest Skype iPhone app upgrade is out in its v .1 form. The new version adds the ability to check Skype voice mail and to send SMS messages. However it lacks push notification.

Free Skype-to-Skype calls from any WiFi zone.
Sign into Skype from any WiFi zone and reach friends and family free with Skype-to-Skype calls.

Call and text (SMS) phones and mobiles at Skype rates.
Reach your contacts anywhere in the world at great rates with Skype. You can call and text (SMS) phones with Pay As You Go credit or with a subscription you get unlimited calls² to landlines (and mobiles in some countries).

See who’s online and send and receive instant messages on the move.

Sign into Skype via 3G, WiFi, GPRS or Edge and see who is online - then instant message them whenever, and wherever the mood strikes.

The Skype for iPhone looks great but it has some major drawbacks including users inability to place calls over mobile networks - only via Wi-Fi.
Skype's iPhone app will save callers money by allowing them to avoid AT&T's traditional wireless phone network and adds the convenience of allowing Skype users for international users.

I sparingly use the application when calling my former college classmates.

Great technology. I'm a buyer of eBay prior to the skype ipo.
