Can Silicon Valley Find the Exit? - Mergers, Acquisitions, Venture Capital, Hedge Funds -- DealBook - New York Times

"Chris Taylor is Business 2.0 magazine’s “Future Boy” blogger. On Friday, he looked into the financial future of Internet startups and came up with a provocative thesis. “Silicon Valley no longer needs Wall Street,” he declared. Entrepreneurs and their venture-capitalist financiers have a better option than an initial public offering: being acquired by the Web’s “cash-rich superpowers.” Think Google, Yahoo, eBay and Amazon.com.
It is not necessarily a new idea. For awhile, there has been a debate over whether venture capitalists and underwriters would be shut out of the startup life-cycle as new companies are bought directly by Internet companies."
