Silicon Image acquires German IP house for $13.5M

"Silicon Image Inc. has acquired German design service and intellectual property (IP) provider sci-worx GmbH from Infineon Technologies AG for approximately $13.5 million in cash, the company disclosed last week (Jan. 4).
The company said the acquisition would accelerate the expansion of its SoC design capabilities for the storage, distribution and presentation of high-definition (HD) content in the consumer environment.
Founded in 1990 as Sican, sci-worx owns 18 registered and pending patents, according to the company. sci-worx derives revenues from more than 50 IP products in the area of video/image processing, wireline communications, security and bus interfaces, Silicon Image said, adding that sci-worx has approximately 172 employees, more than 80 percent of whom are engineers."
