"In order to compete against free services offered by such giants as Microsoft and AOL, Treat's engineers have tried to put together a package of easy-to-install software applications. The company also offers detailed information on videoconferencing hardware, including Webcams, microphones and speakers for the PC.
Unlike the free services, Sightspeed's software application isn't cluttered with advertisements, Treat said. The firm also doesn't offer public chat rooms where strangers can meet, which is common among instant messaging services.
