Visa - Going Mobile with the Digital Wallet
Visa is a global payments technology company that connects consumers, businesses, banks and governments in more than 200 countries and territories, enabling them to use digital currency instead of cash and checks. Joseph Saunders- Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. Joseph W. Saunders was named chairman and chief executive officer of Visa Inc. in May 2007 after having been designated executive chairman in February 2007. Prior to this role, he served Visa International as executive chairman of the transition governance committee and officially began serving as chairman and chief executive officer of Visa Inc. upon its formation in May 2007.
Prior to joining Visa International, he served as president of card services for Washington Mutual, Inc. since the acquisition of Providian Financial Corporation in October 2005. Saunders was president and chief executive officer of Providian from November 2001, and chairman of the board of directors from May 2002, until Washington Mutual’s acquisition of Providian in 2005. From 1997 until 2001, Saunders served as chairman and chief executive officer of Fleet Credit Card Services at FleetBoston Financial Corporation.
Saunders served as a member of the board of directors of Visa USA from October 2002 to February 2007 and Visa International from October 2005 to February 2007, when he resigned from the boards of directors of Visa USA and Visa International to take the executive chairman position of the Visa transition governance committee. From 1993 to 1997, while Saunders was at Household Finance Corporation, he served as a member of the boards of directors of MasterCard International Inc. and MasterCard USA, and was elected chairman of MasterCard International’s board of directors in 1996.
He holds a B.S. in business administration and an MBA, both from the University of Denver.

Peel Secures $16.7 Million in Series B Financing
Peel, the company that provides a personal television recommendation system to find, discover and tune in to your favorite TV shows, movies and sports entertainment, today announced it has secured a $16.7 million Series B round of financing. The deal was led by Ravi Mhatre from Lightspeed Venture Partners based in Menlo Park, California. The Series B funding will enable the company to move forward with additional retail opportunities for the Peel device, as well as for expansion of the Peel application for additional mobile platforms and content sources."Peel is at the forefront of a profound shift in how people watch television and we are proud to be a part of the Peel team," said Ravi Mhatre of Lightspeed Venture Partners. "Peel is the 21st century way to interface with TV. It enables discovery, control and sharing of living room entertainment in a very slick and simple way. It will revolutionize how entertainment is consumed in the living room."
Founded in 2009, Santa Clara-based Peel previously raised its Series A investment with Redpoint Ventures, known for its successful endeavors in consumer entertainment and interactive media including Netflix and TiVo. Satish Dharmaraj from Redpoint led the Series A round. Michael Dearing from Harrison Metal led Peel's Seed round, along with Mitch Kapor from Kapor Capital and Steve Anderson from Baseline Ventures. Several of these Seed investors, along with Redpoint Ventures participated with Lightspeed in the Series B round.
