Cisco acquires Ironport for $830M

"Cisco has announced a definitive agreement to acquire IronPort Systems, a privately held company that provides appliances to protect enterprises against spam and spyware. Cisco will pay about $830 million in cash and stock and the deal is expected to close in Q3 of Cisco's FY 2007. IronPort was founded in 2000 and has 408 employees. This makes IronPort the largest private company that Cisco has acquired in terms of people, and the second largest in terms of acquisition price. IronPort will operate as a business unit within Cisco's Security Technology Group. "

IronPort raised $94M+ in total VC funding from Allegis Capital, Menlo Ventures, Amicus LLC, ChevronTexaco, General Motors, New Enterprise Associates, Rembrandt Venture Partners, Starter Fluid and Western Technology Investment.
