North County Times - Business - Digital Orchid reaps $6M funding

"Digital Orchid, a wireless technology company, said Monday that it has raised $6 million in venture capital funding. The company makes software to enable electronic commerce, entertainment and news through cell phones.

Digital Orchid customers include Nascar.com, ESPN, Major League Baseball Advanced Media and a number of Latin American sports organizations. The company said in its Monday press release that more than 40 percent of its subscriber downloads came from outside the United States.
The investors are Shepherd Ventures, also of Carmel Valley; and NeoCarta Ventures, based in San Francisco and Boston. In December, 2004, Digital Orchid was funded by Qualcomm Ventures, the venture capital arm of telecom giant Qualcomm Inc. of San Diego."
