old news but not sure if i linked to this msft/foldershare deal. there seems to be an ongoing trend in msft, google, and yhoo's m&a thesis whereby these guys are acquiring technologies - community related sites, collaboration, mobile, social networking, photo, auction, commerce, vertical search, jobs - at an earlier stage at a more reasonable valuation. further these startups have critical technologies that can be quite accretive relatively quickly. read flickr.
more on foldershare:
The software maker purchased the FolderShare service from Austin, Texas-based ByteTaxi. Financial details of the deal were not announced.
The technology offers an alternate way to send large files that are too big to be easily e-mailed.
Windows Live is a collection of online services, most of which will be free and supported by advertising, Microsoft said. Many are rebranded versions of existing MSN services.
